“For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.“ Matthew 7:8
“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.“ Jeremiah 33:3
Our God is a prayer–answering God. It is God’s will to answer the prayers of His children. Infact there is no other treatment for prayers in heaven than answers.
This is why we need a deep understanding of what can be hindrances to answers to our prayers. An understanding of the reasons why many people’s prayers are not answered is very crucial so we don’t end up being frustrated in our prayer life.
First of all we need to understand that God operates on principles. There are conditions which activate the answering of prayer by God.
James said it is possible to ask in a wrong way! “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.“ James 4:3
There are several reasons many don’t receive answers to their prayers. Some people ask only because of their selfish lust and it is this lust that drives them to seek God in prayer. Such will not receive any answers and this is what James is trying to get across to us. Many people think about themselves only in prayer and such self-centred praying does not catch God’s attention even though it is God’s will that our prayers be answered. This is why He said in Matthew 7:8 “For everyone that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.“
As I said earlier, there are conditions which activate the answering of prayers by God because God is a God of principles. He is still the same God, He never changes and He will not. Are you a child of God? It is the desire of your Father to answer all of your prayers.
Take note of this: “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will giveit you. Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.“ John 16:23-24
Therefore if your prayers are not being answered, look inward. Do you want your prayers answered?
- Examine your relationship with the Lord. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?“ Amos 3:3
- Are there sins not confessed in your life? “If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me.“ Psalm 66:18 if you regard sins in your heart, no answers.
Therefore approach God with humility today and confess your sins, iniquities and shortcomings to Him. Repent of them and ask for forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.“ 1John 1:9
- How committed are you to the Almighty God in your relationship with Him and how committed are you to His work? “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.“John 15:1-2 “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.“ John 15:7
In Life Kingdom Church this month, God is giving us an understanding of effective prayer – the kind that results in “Before you call, I will answer and while you are still speaking, you hear Me say Here I am.”
That is birthed out of your intimate relationship with Him and your knowledge of His word.
Don’t miss it for anything!
God bless you
